An oasis of biodiversity. An extremely resilient habitat that produces extremely healthy and complex grapes in regular quantities.
In the south of West Flanders, perched on the highest hill between the Scheldt and Lys rivers, lie vineyards where chemical spraying simply doesn’t exist. Here, the landscape transitions from heavy clay at the hilltop to rich sandy loam further down the slopes.
Het Lijsternest is, at its core, an agro-ecological project. We believe that habitat and quality are inextricably linked, a philosophy built entirely on the power of diversity in all its forms.
Born from a wild idea
It all started with an out-of-the-box farming concept. No rulebooks, no conventional methods. Instead, we focused solely on observing wild, natural processes, learning just how much to guide them to achieve a stable harvest without any unnecessary intervention.
Back in 2013, this was nothing more than a patch of arable land and a dream. We started with one core conviction: that natural habitats rarely suffer from pests, and they almost always produce the most complex, intense flavours.
Defying comparison
Our wines are like nothing else. In blind tastings, experts guess everything from the Rhône to the Pfalz. And that is exactly our goal. We don’t want to be put in a box; we want to surprise you and carve out our own identity.
Het Lijsternest stands for the purest possible wines, brimming with character and vibrant fruit. It is all about balance, found both in the optimal phenolic ripeness of the wine, and in the thriving ecosystem surrounding our vines.
